The day new parents welcome their baby into the world is an incredibly emotional day. However, one Nebraska new mom had, even more, to cry about just a few hours after giving birth to her first baby.
Last month, 20-year-old Susan Medina and her boyfriend Darick Mead, 26, welcomed their first child via C-section and the new mom couldn’t think of anything that could make the unforgettable day any better. Mead, on the other hand, knew there was just one other thing he had to do to make the day truly perfect.
Shortly after baby Ryder was born, the hospital’s nurses helped Mead set his plan into action by taking Ryder away from Medina and telling her that they needed to check a few things. Instead of running some routine tests, the nurses were dressing baby Ryder in a special onesie with a message for his mom that read: ‘Mommy, will you marry Daddy?’
“It was super emotional,” said Medina, who was completely stunned and broke down in tears when she saw what was on Ryder’s onesie. “I thought I was gonna be changing a diaper and ended up seeing that. It was absolutely wonderful though, I couldn’t be happier.”
Mead bought the ring a month before Ryder’s due date and told everyone at the hospital about the plan. “Nearly all of our visitors came at the same time and I was stressing out because I had to talk to all of them, but little did I know they, the nurses, and the doctors were all in on it,” the new mom said. Medina, on the other hand, never expected her boyfriend was planning to propose.
“He used to always say that we wouldn’t be married for at least 40 years, just so I wouldn’t know when he would pop the question, so when he did, I was super overwhelmed,” she said. “I even asked him if it was a prank and was waiting for him to say, just kidding, 38 more years.”
